The program, which can be completed in one semester, aims at giving students an understanding of the relationships between ecosystems, resource use and cultural adaptations in the Circumpolar North.

Concepts related to the ecosystem approach and to the UN’s Millennium Ecosystem Assessment program will be examined and discussed in the context of natural conditions and social organisation in circumpolar areas. Students, who have the possibility to emphasize either assessment of ecosystem changes or natural resource economy, will also learn to analyse ecosystem changes, accompanied by the social transformations which underlies these changes.
