The UArctic Thematic Network on Local and Regional Development in the North has been involved in the local development process in the far-northern town of Tana, Norway, since 2004.

Now, the thematic network is continuing their involvement through the upcoming workshop.

At the workshop, which is part of UArctic’s BCS Advanced Emphasis Course in Management of Local and Regional Development, students and teachers together with local development agents from the public and private sectors, will try to reconstruct the organised development process that has been taking place in Tana in recent years.

The development situation in Tana is particularly interesting, because of its multiethnic population, and because there has been such a successful development process since 2004, when UArctic’s Thematic Network on Local and Regional Development in the North ran a local development workshop there.

There are 18 students taking part in the workshop, including students from Canada, Germany and Russia. This year there will also be a professor from the Thematic Network’s partner in Yakutsk - Sakha State University of Russia - taking part in the event.

The Thematic Network on Local and Regional Development in the North will also introduce some of their models and techniques for local and regional development in a rural community, in Northern Yakutia, this June.
