Our motto, Fiat Lux, refers to the illumination that comes from research and learning. We create, inquire and discover, and inspire our students to do the same.
Located on traditional Blackfoot land, First Nations culture is woven into the fabric of the University, enriching our programs, teaching and research. Our Blackfoot name, Iniskim, was gifted to the University by Elder Bruce Wolf Child in 2002. Spanning 500 acres, our Lethbridge campus is known for the signature Arthur Erickson building, University Hall, nestled into the coulees overlooking the Oldman River. As Phase I of the Destination Project, a new science and academic building is near completion. This facility will advance transdisciplinary research and learning opportunities for generations to come.
The UofL boasts 15 research centres and institutes, including the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience and the Centre for Oral History and Tradition. Faculty members bring their research into the classroom and actively engage students in research. Graduate and undergraduate students work alongside accomplished researchers in a supportive and multidisciplinary environment, grounded in liberal education.
Students explore a variety of subjects and discover what they are passionate about while developing the critical thinking and analytical skills that will prepare them for the jobs of the future.
