Lahti University of Applied Sciences

LAB University of Applied Sciences (previously Lahti University of Applied Sciences) is a multidisciplinary higher education institution located in the southern part of Finland. We offer Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes in business and hospitality management, design and communication, technology and environment, and social and health care.  We have five degree programmes in English; International Business (BA), Business Information Technology (BA) and Nursing (BA), International Business Development (MA), Urban Sustainability (MA). In addition, we offer studies in English for exchange students in all our study fields.

The focus areas and profiles of education and RDI are consistent with the regional focus areas; design, smart business, wellbeing and regenerative growth, and circular economy solutions. One of our statutory task is to conduct RDI activities for the benefit of the employment sector, regional development and Lahti UAS education. We promote the regional competitiveness in close cooperation with the local employment sector and provide our students with multidisciplinary real-life business and industry projects to work on. This means that the RDI activities are work-related and aimed at finding, developing and producing new or improved products, production systems, methods and services for the region’s needs.

At Lahti UAS pedagogical strategy, learning is defined to be holistic, embedded and ubiquitous - it happens everywhere and all the time. Transformative learning serves as the foundation of learning; finding the right answers and solutions and identifying relevant questions in order to focus learning around future needs. Integrative pedagogy as a frame leads students’ way towards authentic learning environments in research and development projects, simulations, student cooperatives, e-learning platforms and various kinds of cooperation activities with the business world. These various kinds of learning environments enhance the development of multi-professional competences.

We believe that sustainable and active collaboration with partner universities, industry and other organisations in Finland and abroad enhances our activities and enriches our students' learning experience. We offer our students versatile opportunities to gain international experience and increase their intercultural competence while studying towards their degree at Lahti UAS.
