Arctic Research Center of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District

Arctic Research Center is the first multi-discipline research institution in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District.

Researchers working at the Center conduct environmental and ecological monitoring, organize expeditions to the Far North, publish monograhs, study the unique traditional culture of indigenous people, historical and cultural heritage of the region.

Over the years the Center has collected unique materials about the history of settlement in the Arctic region, ancient rituals, evolvement of reindeer herding on the Yamal Peninsula in the Middle Ages, development of fishing in the earliest eras.

The research activities plan of the Center includes examination of natural resources as well in order to develop recommendations for industrial development companies; scientific research works aimed at reindeer herding problems solution; ecological research and environmental pollutant revelation; etc.
