Arctic Research Center of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District

State Public Institution "Arctic Research Center" is the first regional wide-profiled research institution in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district. Scientists of different specializations are working in the Center. They conduct environmental and ecological monitoring, organize scientific expeditions to the Far Nofth, publish monograhs of scientific works, study the issues of preservation of unique traditional culture of the indigenous people, historical and cultural heritage.

During years of Center's activities there were collected unique materials about the history of settling the Arctic region, the ancient rituals of the ancestors, the evolvement of reindeer herding on the Yamal Peninsula in the Middle Ages, the evelopment of fishing industry in the earliest eras.

Science plan of the Center also includes examination of natural resources in order to develop recommendations aimed at most prudent management while industrial development; scientific research works aimed at reindeer herding problems solution; ecological researches and environmental pollutant revelation; etc.
