  • Living in the Landscape Summer School in Nesna Norway
    • Living in the Landscape (Lila) international and interdisciplinary summer schools series gathered the sixth time this Spring 2025. This year's school took place online in March and onsite on the 19-23 May in Nesna, Norway and it was hosted by the Nord University of Norway. Read more here.

  • Arctic Art and Design Education Exhibition Showcased at International Design Week 2025 in Graz, Austria
    • Arctic Art and Design Education Exhibition Showcased at International Design Week 2025 in Graz, Austria. The exhibition highlights the value of the arts and art education for the vitality of Arctic communities. It featured roll-ups, videos and books. Read more here.
  • Arctic Art Education Camped in Narsaq, Greenland. The Nomadic Hub on New Genre Arctic Art Education (AAE) is a collaborative initiative of the Thematic Networks on Arctic Sustainable Art and Design (ASAD) and Children of the Arctic.
    • The Nomadic Hub on New Genre Arctic Art Education (AAE) is a collaborative initiative of the Thematic Networks on Arctic Sustainable Art and Design (ASAD) and Children of the Arctic, aimed at developing culturally, socially, and ecologically sustainable approaches to art education in the context of the rapidly changing northern regions. Coordinated by the University of Lapland, this initiative utilises the Nomadic Hub as a key methodological and pedagogical tool for engaging with Arctic communities and environments. Read more here.
  • Staff mobility
    • The staff mobility between University of Lapland UoL, Umeå University UmU, University of West of Scotland (UWS) and Glasgow school of Art (GSA) took place in 22-25 April 2025. Teachers from UoL and UmU brought an art exhibition to UWS, Campus Ayr and met with partners from GSA in Glasgow.
  • Art Education Exhibition Celebrates Arctic Communities and Collaboration
    • The exhibition was shown at the Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference, Arktikum Science Centre, Rovaniemi. Read more here.
  • A mix of art students and business students studied together in the Advanced Business Planning course at the Nord University Business School in Bodø, Norway
    • Art and business students from Finland, Norway, and Iceland collaborated in the Advanced Business Planning course at Nord University Business School in Bodø, Norway. The course focused on developing business plans for art-as-a-service initiatives. Teaching was delivered in a hybrid format: in-class for Norwegian students and online for Finnish and Icelandic students. Read more here.
  • Sharing results of Living in the Landscape Summer School
  • A Handbook for Artistic Project and Art-based Action Research in the Arctic
    • It provides practical guidance and inspiring models for designing and implementing collaborative projects in northern contexts, introducing the framework of New Genre Arctic Art Education and the Art-Based Action Research methodology.
    • It was developed and tested at the University of Lapland and the Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design network. Read more here.

    • The "Observation of Change" exhibition is on display at Havremagasinet in Boden, Sweden, until 11 January 2026. The exhibition is based on a Nordic art project in collaboration with the nature restoration project Observation – An Observation of Change in the Junkerdal area, Saltdal municipality, Norway.   • Relate North symposium
    • The 13th Annual Relate North Symposium took place online on November 3rd and 4th, 2025. The Symposium brought together artists and designers, knowledge keepers, researchers, and scholars from across the Circumpolar North to share Indigenous art and land-based knowledge, and land-based arts education more generally. This year’s theme is “Lessons of the Land”.

  • Collaborations and Joint Initiatives Presented at the FERA Conference 2025
  • The FERA Conference 2025 took place in Rovaniemi under the theme Education and Research – Towards a Sustainable and Global Future. The conference invited presenters to consider how the sustainability transition requires new and creative thinking, as well as innovative solutions from education and research, to lay the foundation for a sustainable society. Participants were encouraged to discuss current themes that, collectively, can help build more sustainable and global future. Read more here.
