Online course "Unpacking the snowpack" was established in collaboration with Nordic Snow Network. The course includes 12 learning modules with topics including fundamentals of snow physics, different types of snowpacks around the world, spatial variability of snow cover, internal layering of the snowpack, snow metamorphism, how to conduct basic snow observation, how snow data is used, and citizen science in snow research. The course is designed to serve a broad audience: researchers, students, practitioners, educators, journalists, and anyone with an interest in snow. It is openly accessible and can be started at any time, making it a flexible learning opportunity for diverse users worldwide. Read more here.
The 2nd Polar Winter School on Snow Measurements and Arctic Air Pollution
UArctic Thematic Networks on High Latitude Dust (HLD) and NordSnowNet co-organized the 2nd Polar Winter School on snow measurements and Arctic air pollution in Hvanneyri, Iceland on March 2-8, 2025. Read more here.
In-situ Snow Data Inventory for Arctic and Antarctic regions
The in-situ snow data inventory was based on the surveyed 22 institutions, gathering 42 datasets, and reviewed numerous data portals to identify additional resources. The report highlights the critical role of in-situ snow measurements, such as snow depth, density, and Snow Water Equivalent (SWE), for understanding climate change in the Arctic and Antarctic.
