Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies in a new university established in the year 2011 and it is a state university (autonomous) located in Kochi, Kerala (south India). This university offers programmes in the field of Fisheries and Ocean sciences and its the first of its kind focusing on both these sectors. The university offers undergraduate, post graduate, diploma and Ph.D programmes. The undergraduate programmes are in Bachelor of Fisheries Science( B.F.Sc) and B Tech in Food Science and Technology. The masters programmes include M.F.Sc. (Master of Fisheries Science) , M.Sc programmes in Marine Biology, Marine Chemistry, Physical Oceanography, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Climate Sciences , Microbiology and Marine Biotechnology . Also we offer masters in MBA and Maritime Law. The university functions as four faculties such as Faculty of Ocean Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries Science , Faculty of Fisheries Engineering and Faculty of Fisheries Management. The B.F.Sc and M.F.Sc programmes come under the Faculty of Fisheries Science and it has seven departments.
We have 47 teaching faculty under various departments and the current student strength is 1225. This university is acting as the nodal centre for collaborating with Norwegian universities under the initiative of Government of Kerala. This year with the funding from Government of Kerala we are starting student and faculty exchange with Norwegian universities. Our faculty member is also involved developing course related to Indian Arctic Policy for the Government of India which is going to be a part of the curriculum of the Indian Universities. Also, our faculty is actively involved in Polar research - Arctic, Antarctic and Southern Ocean - through Ministry of Earth Sciences , Government of India.
