Ocean Visions is a science-based, nonprofit conservation organization. We work with and across diverse sectors and disciplines to identify, co-design, evaluate, and support the implementation of bold solutions to counter and reverse climate impacts to the ocean. We provide support for the development, testing, and application of solutions, and for the creation of enabling social and political frameworks. Since 2020, Ocean Visions has bloomed from a bold idea into a global catalyst for the advancement of ocean and climate solutions.
Ocean Visions programs pursue the development of solutions that 1) reduce greenhouse gas emissions through low-carbon ocean-based goods and services, 2) remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere through ocean-based pathways, and 3) repair or forestall dangerous losses and transformations to climate-critical ocean systems. In the latter category of work, the first system that Ocean Visions is focusing on is Arctic sea ice, a critical component of the global climate system given its contribution to Earth’s reflectivity and potential to influence global weather patterns. This work includes advancing the ideas described in the Arctic Sea Ice Road Map, a digital and interactive road map that assesses tools and strategies proposed to slow the loss of and rebuild Arctic Sea Ice, through supporting research, building community, and facilitating conversations across disciplines and sectors.

Ocean Visions’ Arctic-focused work advances societal knowledge on potential tools for responsible marine ecosystem repair through coordinated and responsible research, advancement of governance discussions, and capacity-building. We align with UArctic thematic networks in the following ways:
Arctic and Northern Governance / Institute for Arctic Policy / Arctic Sustainable Resources and Social Responsibility: Ocean Visions supports discussions on governance frameworks, norms, and decision-support processes for responsible Arctic-relevant climate response research, including international coordination, risk governance, and policy-relevant synthesis for decision-makers.
Climate Justice: As highlighted in our roadmap, we are interested in future activities that examine the differential impacts of Arctic climate change and potential response options, with attention to equity, inclusion, and justice considerations for Arctic communities and Indigenous Peoples, and how these perspectives inform research priorities and governance.
Critical Arctic Studies: Ocean Visions’ intervention-focused research is inherently interdisciplinary, integrating physical sciences, social sciences, ethics, and policy analysis to assess risks, uncertainties, and societal implications of Arctic-relevant climate response strategies.
