Inaugural meeting of the UArctic Rectors' Forum to take place in March 2007

The first meeting of the UArctic Rector's Forum will take place at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire US, on March 14, 2007.
The inaugural meeting, hosted by Dartmouth College Provost Dr Barry Scherr, is organized in partnership with the International Arctic Science Committee and will take place during the Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW).

The purpose of the UArctic Rector's Forum, an initiative of Ofelas (UArctic Chief Executive), is to engage the leadership of UArctic member institutions more actively in the strategic development of UArctic as well as in discussions about the role of higher education in the north in the development of the region and globally.

The Rector's Forum will bring together university and college Presidents, Rectors, Provosts, Chancellors and Vice-Presidents around specific themes. For the first meeting, those themes include the role of universities during the International Polar Year, relationships between universities and governments, and the influence of universities in the development of the circumpolar region.

The meeting will take place during the Arctic Science Summit Week, hosted by Dartmouth College, and one day prior to the ASSW Science Day. The ASSW will end on March 20.
