International Secretariat Gets a Little Bigger

The International Secretariat is pleased to announce a new addition to the University of the Arctic (UArctic) family.

Pieta was born on February 7 to her proud parents Veli-Pekka Laitinen and Veera Kinnunen, almost one month prior to her expected arrival date.  She weighed 2.65 kilograms and has grown healthily in the succeeding weeks.

Veli-Pekka is working in the International Secretariat designing UArctic graphics and is responsible for the look of the new website set to take stage by mid-year.  Veera has been an intern in the UArctic International Secretariat on several of occasions.

The name Pieta is an old Finnish name, but was also inspired by Michelangelo’s celebrated sculpture depicting Mary holding a stricken Jesus.

Congratulations Vellu and Veera!
