Jokkmokk Winter Conference: A Gathering of Students, Researchers and Young Decision Makers- February 4-6

Jokkmokk Winter Conference
The 2008 Annual Winter Conference, held in Jokkmokk Sweden, is titled 'Developing the North – the Next 20 Years'. This year's Conference will focus on climate change, genuine sustainability in the North and how to avoid conflicts in the ongoing global race for economic growth,energy, water, security and living space.
75,3457The Conference will feature a variety of presentations, guest speakers, panel discussions and workshops on how to cope with climate change. Special guests include, Ambassador Bo Kjellén and UArctic President, Lars Kullerud. A delegation of students and researchers from the University of Lapland and Arctic Centre in Rovaniemi will also be attending the conference. Participants can expect to be meeting new friends and hammering out new strategies and initiatives for the North, including:
 -handing over proposals to ambassadors, government advisor and ministers who will be present and participate on 6 February,
 - actions to be concretely followed up at Jokkmokk Winter Conference in 2009.
                                                      
Jokkmokk Winter Conference is part of the weeklong Jokkmokk Winter Market – a major international event of culture, entertainment  and handicraft  that attracts some 40.000 visitors during a few intensive days.  The Winter Market is a Sami tradition since 1602.
