With 2,000 athletes between the ages of 10 and 24 from Alaska, Alberta North, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik Quebec, Greenland, Sápmi, Yamal and the Yukon visiting Fairbanks for the Games, we think the College Fair will be a perfect opportunity to introduce potential students to the opportunities presented by UArctic member institutions.

The Arctic Winter Games ( www.awg2014.org ) are held every two years to celebrate sport through friendly competition while offering athletes a social and cultural exchange with youth from other northern regions around the world. The Games also build partnerships, share cultural values, and provide an opportunity to strengthen and showcase our young people and our communities.

UArctic and AWG share a mission to celebrate the North and its peoples. In an effort to foster our youth’s enthusiasm for our shared region and cultures, AWG and UAF invite UArctic institutions to showcase the educational opportunities available across the circumpolar north at the College Fair. This will be an unparalleled opportunity to connect to youth and young adults who demonstrate deep commitment to their Northern identity and to learning from and with their Northern peers.

If your institution is interested in participating in the College Fair, please complete attached form and return it via email to Megan Sfraga at mdsfraga@alaska.edu  by March 1.

In addition, the Fairbanks 2014 AWG Host Society has established a scholarship fund to support students who choose to pursue higher education at a UArctic member institution. During the College Fair, AWG is prepared to offer nine $500 scholarships to AWG athletes, with the opportunity of a match from the accepting institution, for a total of up to $1,000 to each of nine students. For more about the college fair and the scholarship fund, please contact Sunya Maxwell at smaxwell@awg2014.org  or Mary Kreta at mmkreta@alaska.edu
