IV Barents PhD Summer School in Arkhangelsk

Northern Arctic Federal University and Northern State Medical University are pleased to announce the IV Barents PhD Summer School which will be held in 20-26 August, 2017 in Arkhangelsk.  It is a collaborative project between the universities of Umeå, Oulu, Tromsø and Archangelsk aiming at gathering young researchers and experts from the Northern universities for the PhD course “Barents Region – the Territory of Ecology” to address the key issues of the regional development and nature preservation. 

PROGRAMME

Includes keynote lectures, workshops, interactive sessions and site visits. The range of issues to be addressed:

Climate change and adaptation

Environmental health

The Arctic ecosystems and biodiversity

Protected areas policy

Forest regeneration

Black carbon emissions and energy efficiency in the North

Ecological safety

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The application deadline is the 25th May, 2017.

TRAVEL

Arrival day: 20th August, 2017 Departure day: 26th August, 2017

FINANCING

Meals, airport/in-city transfers, course materials, an information package and cultural programme will be provided by the organizers. Hotel accommodation and travel costs to/from Arkhangelsk are covered by the participants. NArFU can provide the university hostels upon your request.
