As the world grapples with political upheaval, accelerating climate change, disruptive technologies, and shifting global mobility, geographers are preparing to confront these challenges head-on. The 11th Nordic Geographers’ Meeting, set for June 22–25, 2026 in Reykjavík, Iceland, will bring scholars together to explore how geography can help understand and shape an increasingly uncertain world.

Organizers note that rising geopolitical tensions, extreme weather events, social fragmentation, and the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence are redefining societies and environments. Against this backdrop, they argue, geography’s role is more vital than ever, linking global and local processes, addressing inequalities, and examining the relationships between humans, technology, and the planet.

The conference will focus on creative and critical approaches to research and teaching, inviting contributions from across human and physical geography, as well as related fields. Participants will examine how the discipline can foster constructive engagement and interdisciplinary solutions in a rapidly changing world.
