Leaders of the north2north National Agencies met in Copenhagen at the end of January to discuss communications, funding, and applications, among other topics.

The north2north National Agencies met on 28 and 29 January 2026 in Copenhagen. This meeting that was organized by UArctic Vice-President Mobility and gathered the national coordinators of the countries with north2north funding (Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden), the UArctic Chief Communication Officer and the UArctic President. This kind of meeting is organized when the leadership of north2north needs to discuss important topics related to the program’s development when decisions need to be made unanimously.

This year’s main agenda item was communication, and a one-day workshop was organized together with UArctic Chief Communication Officer Hannele Palviainen to discuss the promotion of north2north among students and staff at each partner institution and on social media. The participants provided suggestions on how the content of the north2north pages could be improved on the UArctic website based on feedback that they had received from north2north institutional coordinators.

UArctic President Lars Kullerud shared updates on the latest developments within UArctic and the UArctic Congress 2026 taking place on the Faroe Islands. Thanks to the generosity of various funders such as the Nordic Council of Ministers, Føroya Banki, Global Affairs Canada, Scandinavian Seminar and UArctic, grants will be allocated to support students who participate with abstracts at the UArctic Congress 2026 and the Ocean Connectivity Conference.

You can find more information about these student grants here.

Sweden also shared the great news that they will have north2north funding to support the mobility of the outgoing staff and faculty at the Swedish north2north member institutions from the academic year 2026/27.

Finally, the group worked on finalizing the last details of the application round 2026/27 and on planning activities related to north2north for 2026 and 2027.

Such in-person meetings are extremely valuable because they strengthen the cooperation between the countries with north2north funding and allow for the discussion of practical issues that would have been challenging to resolve during online meetings.
