University Centre of the Westfjords publishes new paper on higher education and community development
The paper, titled “Higher Education as Coastal Community Development: Lessons Learned From the University Centre of the Westfjords, Iceland,” was published in the journal Ocean and Society. It reflects on UW’s 20-year experience as a rural coastal educational institution.
The article was developed in response to a special call for papers focusing on the importance of universities within their local societies. As UW was originally established as a community development tool, it was considered well positioned to contribute insights to the special issue. The publication also marks the institution’s 20th anniversary.
