UArctic congratulates Gary Wilson on receiving the Polar Medal
UArctic congratulates Dr. Gary Norman Wilson, Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), on being awarded the Polar Medal for his significant contributions to Canada’s understanding of the Arctic and northern communities.
Based in Prince George, British Columbia, Dr. Wilson has devoted his academic career to research and teaching on Inuit self-governance, regional autonomy, and multi-level governance in the North. His work has contributed to a deeper understanding of Indigenous leadership and governance in the Arctic.
Dr. Wilson has also made important contributions to the international Arctic research community. He has served on the Board of the International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA) and co-convened one of its international conferences, helping to strengthen collaboration among Arctic social scientists worldwide.
