The project applied the Place-based Strategy Evaluation Framework (PlaSE) across three North Atlantic destinations: Dalabyggð (Iceland), Vágur (Faroe Islands), and Åndalsnes (Norway). Through workshops, interviews, database research, comparative analysis, and application of the PlaSE Framework, it explored how local people experience tourism and what this means for the future of their communities.
The webinar will share key findings on what people value about the places they live, how tourism impacts and benefits are perceived, and how decisions about tourism development are made in these northern coastal destinations. It will also discuss how place-based approaches can help ensure that tourism development reflects local priorities and community wellbeing.
The event is aimed at tourism practitioners, destination managers, policymakers, community organisations, researchers, students and anyone interested in sustainable, regenerative and community-centred tourism development in northern, Arctic, rural and island destinations.
The webinar will be held online via Microsoft Teams Webinar. Participation is free, but registration is required. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the findings, share experiences, and explore how the lessons from the report may apply in other destinations across the North Atlantic region.
