Travel Funding Available for Postgraduate Student to Attend ISAR-9 in Japan

As part of the University of the Arctic-funded project Building Capacity and Visibility in Circumpolar Health: Training, Engagement, and Forward-Looking Dialogue, Thematic Network on Health and Wellbeing in the Arctic is announcing a call for applications for travel funding of approximately €2,500 for a Master's or PhD student to participate in The Ninth International Symposium on Arctic Research scientific conference (ISAR-9 ) held as part of Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2027 in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan. ASSW2027 will be held from 11 to 20 April 2027. The funded student will participate in the ISAR-9, which takes place from 16 to 20 April 2027.

During the visit, the selected student will present their research related to the topic of health and wellbeing in the Arctic, actively participate in the scientific programme of ISAR-9, and attend a collaboration meeting hosted by the project. If their abstract is not accepted, they will provide a small short news story in UArctic webpage about their attendance after the conference. The student will be accompanied and mentored by a senior researcher involved in the project Dr. Anna Reetta Rönkä. 

The network welcomes applications from students whose research focuses on various aspects of Health and Wellbeing in the Arctic region, and whose Master's thesis or doctoral research is related to this theme. Suitable conference sessions to apply will be identified once the ISAR-9 programme is finalized. The network particularly encourages applications from Indigenous scholars and researchers working in partnership with Indigenous and local communities.
