Villum Research Station

Aarhus University operates the Villum Research Station in North Greenland. The Villum Research Station is a substantial upgrade of the air pollution monitoring station Station Nord. The research activities have been ongoing since the 1970’s with measurement activities intensified since 1990. The research facilities were established by the Danish National Environmental Research Institute (NERI), which is now merged with Aarhus University.

Villum Research Station, Station Nord is located in Greenland at 81° 36'5.26” N, 16° 39'43.31” W, 24 m ASL.

The research station consists of a garage for storage of vehicles; a tent, generators etc. for a mobile station; a laboratory house wich can accomodate 14 scientists. The laboratory facilities are for chemical and biological work. In connection to the station (2 km from the laboratory house) is a measurement house whith instrumentation for measurements of atmospheric components (particles and various gases). The Villum Reserach Station has a climate mast where meteorological data are collected. Total research area is ca. 600 m2.

The Station is owned by the Greenlandic Government but is operated by Aarhus University.
