The UArctic Congress 2026 takes place from May 26 to 29, 2026 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.
The event is hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands (Setur), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, and the Faroe Marine Research Institute.
The call for session proposals for the UArctic Congress 2026 is open. Read more and submit your proposal now! The submission deadline has been extended, and the call closes on July 31, 2025.
More information will be published on the Congress webpages in due time, but as people are already starting to think about their travels, we'd like to address a couple potential concerns our participants might have:
Accommodation. The local organizers have made block reservations at all hotels in Tórshavn and around, and the rooms will be released for participant bookings when the Congress registration opens.
Air travel. If flights to the Faroe Islands around the arrival days are getting full, the local airline will add more flights.
The UArctic Congress is a biennial event that brings together a science conference and key UArctic meetings into a single gathering.
With the aim to foster contacts and enhance networking, the UArctic Congress welcomes institutional leaders, Indigenous representatives, academics, scientists, and students from around the Circumpolar North and beyond. Together with partners, policy makers, and other actors, the Congress strives to take the Arctic agenda forward by creating and strengthening collaborations that produce new findings and solutions for the future of the Arctic region.
The 2026 Congress themes are aligned with the Kingdom of Denmark’s priorities for its Arctic Council Chairship program:
As a unique feature, the Congress incorporates the Ocean Conference, scheduled to be held in the Faroe Islands in 2026, with the aim of enhancing collaboration in marine science.
In addition to high-level plenary and parallel sessions, the Congress also includes the 2026 meeting of the UArctic Assembly and a UArctic Rectors meeting, as well as networking and social events. It is therefore an excellent platform for all UArctic members to engage with each other, establish new connections, and promote cooperation in circumpolar research and higher education.
