Harbin Engineering University

Harbin Engineering University (HEU), founded in 1953, is located in Harbin, the ice city, by the beautiful Songhua River in China. HEU is one of the first key universities in the national "211 Project" (to set up 100 national key universities in the 21st Century). In 2017, HEU was ranked among the national “Double First-rate” (first class universities and first class disciplines) strategies. HEU has major personnel training and scientific research in the field of ship and ocean equipment, ship power, marine information, and advanced nuclear energy and safety. In the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities, HEU was ranked at 401-500.

HEU covers an area of 1.26 million square meters. There are 12 post doctoral work stations, 14 Doctoral first-class disciplines, 32 Master’s first-class disciplines, and 34 undergraduate programs. HEU has 3006 staff at HEU, including 8 academicians, 477 doctoral advisors, 1062 professors and associate professors, and 28278 students, including 1384 international students.

HEU is home to dozens of significant scientific research achievements including China’s first experimental submarine, first hovercraft,which were born at HEU. In the recent years, Harbin Engineering University attaches great importance to the study of the Arctic, and has conducted in-depth discussions and cooperation with State Marine Technical University of St.Petersburg, St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Northern (Arctic) Federal University and some other universities, institutions and organizations.

Adhering to the policies of internationalization and open-running, HEU has established wide and substantial partnerships with more than 100 well-known universities and research institutions,world top Marine & Offshore classification societies, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) etc.
