UArctic Chair Kamrul Hossain Delivered an Academic Course on Arctic Law in China
From August 23–29, Professor Kamrul Hossain, UArctic Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education, delivered a weeklong academic course on Arctic Law at Harbin Engineering University’s Department of Law in China.
Titled “Frontiers of Arctic Legal Governance,” the course introduced key legal and governance issues shaping the contemporary Arctic. The lectures covered a broad range of topics, including Arctic sovereignty, environmental law, Arctic and Arctic Ocean governance, and the application of human rights law to the rights and interests of Arctic Indigenous peoples.
The course brought together approximately 35 advanced undergraduate and Master’s-level students, offering them an opportunity to engage in emerging legal and governance challenges in the Arctic and to explore the increasingly important role of international and regional law in shaping the region’s future.
The course strengthened academic exchange and Arctic-related legal education within the UArctic network, while fostering greater awareness of Arctic issues among students and scholars in China.
