UArctic Board meets in Longyearbyen, Svalbard

UArctic’s Board of Governors meet in Longyearbyen, Svalbard on April 15-17, 2015. Chaired by Brian Rogers, the Board made some key decisions on UArctic’s future organizational structure.

In addition to the Board's business meeting, guest speaker, Eero Hokkanen, Arctic Advisor to the CEO of Finland Chamber of Commerce, and to Finnish representatives at the Arctic Economic Council and Team Arctic Finland, presented the Growth from the North Report.

In conjunctions with the Board meeting, UArctic’s Senior Management Team (Ma-Mawi) also met in Longyearbyen, with both meetings hosted by UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and UNIS - The University Centre in Svalbard.

Lead by Dr. Hanne H. Christiansen, Professor and head of the UNIS Arctic Geology department, and Dr. Ole Humlum, Professor of Physical Geography at UNIS; both UArctic groups were given a tour of the Adventdalen valley. During the tour they viewed and learned about landforms and processes, and visited research field sites of UArctic’s Thematic Network on Permafrost.
