The 2nd Finland-India joint seminar held at the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU)
On the 20th of September 2022, the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) in Amarkantak in India hosted the 2nd Finland-India joint seminar entitled "Perspectives on Indigenous and Tribal peoples from India and the Arctic: Politics, Culture, and Social Identity."
The seminar was organized as part of the staff-student mobility program from Finland to India under the project "Interdisciplinary curricula on indigenous and tribal peoples' studies." Approximately forty participants from the five universities, including two Finnish and three Indian institutions (the University of Lapland and University of Oulu, and the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), North Bengal University, and Sikkim University), attended the event.
The one-day seminar demonstrated sharing of views and ideas and thought-provoking discussions on a range of topics on Indigenous and tribal peoples from India and the Arctic. The discussions especially emphasized the link between the Arctic and Himalayan region (the region in the so-called third Pole) while addressing Indigenous and tribal peoples' perspectives.
The Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law at the Arctic Centre, the UArctic Law Thematic Network, and the UArctic Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education acted as collaborative partners.
