Alaska Geology Field Excursion, September 2023

Such a transect took the participants across a number of interesting rock types and landforms, as well as features related to permafrost, past glaciations, the Trans-Alaska pipeline, and local culture and history. The group were also treated to a spectacular aurora whilst camping at Arctic Circle. 

The participants came from several universities: University of Oslo, University Centre in Svalbard, University of Bremen, Sonoma State University, University of Texas, Macalester College, University of Alaska Fairbanks, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Amsterdam, Australian National University.

The field excursion was part of a large collaborative project NOR-R-AM2: Changes at the Top of the World through Volcanism and Plate Tectonics. The project is a collaboration between Norway-[Russia]-North America and funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
