Starlink feasibility measurements conducted by the 6G Flagship team

The measurement point along the famous Raate road.

6G Flagship team conducted Starlink feasibility measurements between Oulu and eastern border of Finland in Suomussalmi.

The aim was to check if Starlink was usable in a typical Finnish rural/remote cottage; it was. Selected spots varied from open areas to wood covered areas, though trees were rather small and forest was not very dense.

Starlink provided over 100 Mbps downlink data rates expect in more wooded areas about 65 Mbps and 15 – 40 Mbps uplink data rates. Connection initialization time varied from below 10 minutes up to 15 minutes; note that Starlink satellite density above Finland is scarce. Close to the Russian border connection failed since Russian territory is not served by Starlink and these beams also cover parts of Finland.
