Virtual Exhibition: "RUOKTOT - The Return of the Sámi Drums"

Museum leader Dr. Jelena Porsanger and the Sámiid Vuorká-Dávvirat (the Sámi Museum in Karasjok as a part of the broader RiddoDuottarMuseat association) alongside Matthew Magnani, University of Maine, created a virtual exhibition on the return of Indigenous cultural heritage in Sápmi.
For centuries, sacred Sámi drums were destroyed or confiscated and moved south to colonial centers. For generations, Sámi communities have fought to get them back. The digital exhibition seeks to raise these histories to consciousness and strengthen the groundwork for their return. The digital exhibit was launched with the Khalili Foundation for UNESCO's World Festival of Cultural Diversity.
The exhibition is presented with the Khalili Foundation under the leadership of UArctic Thematic Network on Digital North: Three-Dimensional Technologies and Arctic Education member Jelena Porsanger in collaboration with TN leader Matthew Magnani.
The virtual tour, viewable behind any screen and in virtual reality, can be found here.
