Core responsibilities include:
- Establish goals, plans, and objectives as part of the scientific and operational leadership of the Hydrology Program while providing support and expertise for the newly developed Renewable Energy Program;
- Develop, plan, and conduct complex, multi-disciplinary investigations to help collect data, advance the State’s knowledge of surface and groundwater hydrology, and better understand and resolve complex hydrologic issues;
- Work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary projects with other scientists where understanding hydrologic processes is critical to solving geologic problems that benefit the safety and well-being of Alaskans;
- Apply for grants, manage administrative and scientific work, assign tasks, monitor project schedules, manage resources, and ensure projects stay on schedule and meet budget and deliverables; and
- Provide expertise for the State as a liaison with municipal, state, federal, tribal, and industry officials.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited college in hydrology or a natural or physical science which includes course work in hydrology, hydrogeology, or geohydrology; AND
- Two years of advanced professional level experience in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geohydrology. This experience is met as a Hydrologist 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent from another employer; OR
- One year of advanced professional level hydro-modeling experience in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geohydrology; OR
- A doctorate in natural or physical sciences from an accredited college that includes specialties such as hydrology, hydrogeology, or geohydrology.
