Since its inception, COIL@UArctic Thematic Network has been running a series on Masterclasses and training webinars internationally, to encourage and support faculty and educators in developing their Collaborative Online International Learning projects.

Between November 2024 and April 2025, Steve Harbert from Robert Gordon University has delivered a series of webinars focusing on each stage in the process of developing a COIL project including Introduction to COIL, Project Planning, Finding a COIL Partner, and Running a COIL Project. The webinars included examples from COIL@UArctic and explained how to complete a COIL profile to share with prospective COIL partners on the website.

In April, Dr Izzy Crawford, the TN Lead Partner, delivered a COIL Masterclass at Kathmandu University in Nepal at the request of the Himalayan Universities Consortium (HUC). This included an overview of the work of UArctic and how learning from COIL@UArctic might usefully be applied to the Himalayan context. Read more about the experience at the Himalayan Universities Consortium (HUC) General Assembly.

In May, Izzy also delivered an online COIL Masterclass to faculty from the University of Pannonia, Hungary, and invited participants to share their COIL profiles with COIL@UArctic. At the same time, Steve travelled to the University of the Faroe Islands as a part of the UArctic’s north2north programme, to deliver a talk about benefits of COIL and how to develop and run COIL projects. This year the network will host another COIL@UArctic Masterclasses – in the University of Southern Maine in December.
