In memoriam: Anne Husebekk

Shared Voices 2021 Interviews Of UArctic Board Members Anne Husebekk

UArctic Board member Anne Husebekk passed away on December 5, 2025. UArctic extends our deepest condolences to Anne's family and friends, as well as the Arctic and international community that knew her and worked with her over the years.

Anne Husebekk served on the UArctic Board since 2018 and was currently on her third term. She served as the Board Vice-Chair in 2022-2025, and from 2020 she was also the Chair of UArctic's Philanthropic Fundraising Advisory Group, Týr.

Before taking on a role in our Board, Anne was already engaged with UArctic through her leadership at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, one of the most active institutions in the UArctic network. She served as the UiT rector from 2013 until 2021, and from 2023 continued work as the head of the Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic at UiT.

Beyond UArctic and the Arctic, Anne was influential on international levels as well. From 2021 to 2025, she served as Vice-President for Freedom and Responsibility in Science in the Governing Board of the International Science Council. In that position, she brought in Arctic perspectives as well.

Individuals who would like to address a message to Anne’s family can do so by sending a message to norges.arktiske.universitet@uit.no. The messages will be gathered and forwarded to Anne’s family.
