The European Commission has launched a public consultation and call for evidence as part of the process to update the EU Arctic policy so that it remains relevant and effective in addressing the evolving challenges and opportunities in the Arctic.

The main document setting out the EU Arctic policy is the Joint Communication published in 2021. Since then, environmental, security, economic, social, and political developments have altered key aspects of the challenges that the EU is facing in the Arctic context. The Commission President has called for a review of the EU Arctic policy to ensure that it is fit for these challenges, while maintaining those set out in the 2021 Communication that continue to be relevant.

The public consultation and the call for evidence will be open until 16 March 2026. The objective is to gather diverse perspectives on key issues such as climate change, sustainable development, environmental protection, security and international cooperation in the Arctic.
