Rural Education in the North (REN) project meeting held in Tórshavn

Funded through the UArctic Kingdom of Denmark funding scheme and on this occasion hosted by the University of the Faroes, the Rural Education in the North (REN) research consortium met in Torshavn prior to the UArctic Congress for the second of their project meetings.

Drawing together academics and educational practitioners in diverse geographical, cultural and linguistic contexts across the North,  the REN project aims to collate small-scale action research projects focusing on locally identified priorities for education provision such as multi-stage classes, Indigenous curriculum and/or pedagogy, teacher preparation and retention, ongoing teacher professional development, linguistic diversity.

During the meeting in Torshavn, the team members shared progress on each of the case studies located across eight policy contexts in the North and confirmed their plans for the publication of an edited book with Bloomsbury alongside an Open Access, online guide for educational practitioners.

The project is part of the activities of the Thematic Network on Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity in Education.
