Call for Papers: 14th Volume of "Current Developments in Arctic Law (2026)"
The University of the Arctic's Thematic Network on Arctic Law and its Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education, in collaboration with the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law (NIEM) at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, invites submissions for the 14th volume of "Current Developments in Arctic Law" (CDAL).
The University of the Arctic's Thematic Network on Arctic Law and its Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education, in collaboration with the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law (NIEM) at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, invites submissions for the 14th volume of "Current Developments in Arctic Law" (CDAL).
The call for papers is for short academic articles, review papers, or summaries of research or projects related to Arctic law and policy. The publication is open access, though it is not strictly peer reviewed. Contributions should ideally be between 1000 and 3000 words; longer papers are also welcome. The volume is expected to be published in December 2026.
Submission Guidelines:
· Types of Contributions: Short academic articles, review papers, or summaries of research or projects.
· Length: Ideally between 1000 and 3000 words. Longer papers are also welcome!
· Publication: Open-access scientific publication, though not strictly peer-reviewed.
· Deadline: October 30, 2026.
· Expected Release: December 2026.
Themes of Interest Include, but are not limited to:
· International Law: Legal and policy frameworks governing the Arctic, international law and institutions, and regional frameworks.
· National Laws and Policies: Legal frameworks of Arctic states and their approaches to Arctic issues.
· Climate Change and Environmental Law: Legal implications of climate change in the Arctic, the role of environmental law.
· Resource Management: Legal aspects of resource extraction and management (oil and gas, fisheries, minerals).
· Indigenous Rights: Rights and interests of Arctic and Indigenous peoples within the international governance structure of the Arctic.
· Geopolitical Issues: Impact of geopolitical shifts on Arctic cooperation, new forms of cooperation or conflict.
