The focus of the Arctic AI network is the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to key Arctic issues and the development of relevant AI expertise within the region. While AI has become a central topic of global discussion and is often portrayed as a universal solution to complex problems, it is essential to distinguish between what AI can realistically address and the broader consequences of its application. AI encompasses a wide range of approaches beyond machine learning, many of which do not rely on extensive data resources and can therefore be more appropriately adapted to Arctic conditions and priorities.
The goal of the Thematic Network on Arctic AI is to raise the overall level of AI literacy and capability in the Arctic.
