Université Laval

Université Laval traces its origins back to 1663 as the very first institution in North America to offer higher education in French. Its 1.8 km² university campus is located in the heart of historic Quebec City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site ranked the best destination in Canada in 2022 by Travel + Leisure magazine and the 4th best student city in the world by Studee in 2021.

As of 2022, Université Laval offered over 550 programs in all fields of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with over 125 programs and 1000 courses offered entirely online. Over 57,000 students were enrolled at the University in 2021-2022, with 28% of them at the graduate level. The university attracts yearly more than 7,500 international students or permanent residents that make close to 15% of the total student community.

As one of Canada's leading universities, Université Laval ranks among the top ten Canadian universities in terms of research, with over 515 million dollars in external research funding in 2021. A national leader in concerted northern and Arctic research, Université Laval is the host institution for numerous national and international Arctic research programs, networks, institutes, and infrastructure, such as the Institut nordique du Québec (INQ), the ArcticNet Network of Centres of Excellence, the Centre for northern studies (CEN), the Centre interuniversitaire d'études et de recherches autochtones (CEIRA), the Sentinel North CFREF program, the Takuvik International Research Lab and Amundsen Science, the scientific operator of the Canadian research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen.
