EduPermaGR Project to Develop Permafrost Education in Greenland

Edupermagr

The project EduPermaGR of the UArctic Thematic Network on Permafrost aims to develop interdisciplinary higher education on permafrost in collaboration with a Greenlandic community.

Last September, the network held the kick-off workshop for the UArctic project, EduPermaGR, in Sisimiut, Greenland. Throughout the week, participants engaged in many insightful discussions with community members and industry professionals about how permafrost affects their lives and work, as well as their vision for the future development of their community.

In December 2024, the project partners met at Aalborg University in Copenhagen to further discuss how best to develop a field- and lab-based interdisciplinary master’s course in Sisimiut, scheduled to run in spring 2026.

Supported by funding from the Danish UArctic network, the EduPermaGR course will cover a broad range of topics, including basic permafrost science, periglacial geomorphology, permafrost hydrology, ground thermal modeling, geophysics, and permafrost geotechnics. The course will be taught at Arctic DTU Sisimiut—a campus and INTERACT research station of the Technical University of Denmark in Sisimiut, Greenland.
