Registration Now Open for the Policing in the Digital Society Conference 2026
Politihøgskolen – the Norwegian Police University College will host the annual Policing in the Digital Society Network conference. The conference will be held between the 13th – 15th of January 2026 at the Politihøgskolen campus in Oslo, Norway.
The conference will feature three streams
Stream 1: Big data: surveillance, social control and police dependencies
Data analytics to produce crime predictions and intelligence products are crucial in police fight against crime. This raises issues related to digital surveillance and social control. In addition, there are concerns that police dependency of providers of digital infrastructure and services might cause vulnerabilities with respect to data integrity and availability in critical situations. This stream welcomes presentations about police dependencies and other risks related to big data.
Stream 2: Interface of policing, criminal justice and technology
This stream will focus on the use of technology and digital evidence in criminal investigations and the wider criminal justice process. Technological developments and increasingly sophisticated digital evidence can create a range of challenges and opportunities for police (and other) investigators and the wider criminal justice system. We encourage papers on issues including (but not limited to) the adoption and use of technologies for criminal investigations and evidence gathering, opportunities created by emerging technological developments to improve criminal investigations and proceedings, and the capability of criminal justice systems to deal with challenges posed by digital evidence and technological developments, including presentation, interpretation and interrogation of digital evidence by courts.
Stream 3: Fighting crime in the future
The increasing digitalization of society gives rise to new opportunities for criminal activity, as well as for crime prevention and investigation. These developments raise the question of how the police will fight crime in the (near) future. This stream welcomes presentations that explore new crimes and new proactive and retroactive crime-fighting strategies that emerge in digital society.
