Third Year with the Global Indigenous Youth Summit on Climate Change (GIYSCC)

Youth Summit (1)

Originating from an Indigenous youth circle at the University of the Arctic (UArctic) Assembly in 2022 in Portland, Maine – the Global Indigenous Youth Summit on Climate Change (GIYSCC) was convened for its third year on August 9th, circling the Earth with the Sun across three 8-hour time zones in 24 hours (00:00-24:00 GMT) on the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

In its first three years, GIYSCC has included nearly 3000 registrants representing 355 languages from 140 nations.  Legacy and Indigenous youth imagination with the GIYSCC is reflected in 2023 by their invited Nature Commentary that “Indigenous Youth Must Be at the Forefront of Climate Diplomacy” as well as by two upcoming volumes with nearly fifty chapters written by Indigenous youth globally in the Informed Decisionmaking for Sustainability book series published by Springer.  UArctic contributions with GIYSCC-2026 are cordially invited.
