Arctic Six to establish permanent secretariat at the University of Oulu
The permanent secretariat will be established with the aim to strengthen the research and educational cooperation of the Arctic Six alliance.
The decision to establish the Arctic Six Executive Secretariat at the University of Oulu was made by rectors of the Arctic Six universities on May 18, 2026. The Arctic Six secretariat is planned to begin its work in autumn.
“The establishment of a permanent secretariat is a milestone in the development of the Arctic Six alliance. We had four very good and serious proposals, and I am grateful to all four institutions that expressed their interest in hosting the secretariat. Now that we have reached a decision, I am very confident that Oulu will serve the needs of the alliance in a very good way, " said Professor Jørgen Berge, Director of the Arctic Six at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
