The Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) is a non-profit private entity with an associative structure. It aims to promote understanding of international political issues, contributing to the establishment of a just and peaceful global community, the progress of European unification, and the dissemination of knowledge and protection of human rights.
The SIOI is one of the most renowned institutions in Italy that deal with research and analysis of international relations and cooperation and offer higher education programs for university students, graduates, international executives and diplomats. It also constitutes an important liaison channel with major multilateral organizations including, first and foremost, the United Nations.
The SIOI conducts Analysis and Research on international politics and the various areas of geopolitical, geoeconomic, and geostrategic interest.
The SIOI’s Studies and Publications Office promotes study activities and the publication of research in the SIOI Journal “La Comunità Internazionale”.
Monographic studies, conference proceedings, and other research, promotion, and information initiatives of the Society are published in the monographic volumes of the SIOI series, published by Armando Editore.
SIOI also runs the on-line “Observatory on the activities of international and supranational, universal and regional organizations on topics of interest to Italian foreign policy” (OSORIN).
It is the Italian Association for the United Nations - UNA Italy, one of the founding members of the ‘World Federation of the United Nations Associations’ (WFUNA), member of the ‘International Forum on Diplomatic Training’ (IFDT) in Vienna and member of the non-profit association UARCTIC (University of the Arctic). SIOI has its headquarters in the centre of Rome, in Palazzetto Venezia, and has spread over national territory through all of its branches (Turin and Milan), the Office to support the United Nations in Assisi and groups of the Students’ Movement for International Organization - MSOI.
Prominent Italian politicians, professors of international law, and diplomats served and continue to serve as SIOI Presidents and Board members. The current President, elected in April 2023, is Ambassador Riccardo Sessa (https://www.sioi.org/chi-siamo/il-presidente/?lang=en). Among various high-level positions, he served as Director General for the Middle East and Mediterranean, Ambassador of Italy to Belgrade, Tehran, and Beijing, and Italian Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels.
