The Russian poet Alexander Pushkin called translators "post horses of progress", underlining the value of this profession for all mankind since the destruction of the Tower of Babel. The idea of this professional holiday was proclaimed by the International Federation of Translators (International Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs, FIT) in 1991. The date was chosen not by chance: 30 September 420 died Saint Jerome of Stridonium, writer, historian and the Bible translator into Latin.
The work of two UArctic administrative offices in Yakutsk and Arkhangelsk is also closely related to the art of translation. On a daily basis they provide information in Russian and English to UArctic members and visitors of UArctic official website. We congratulate our colleagues with this holiday!
