UArctic Assembly 2025 has kicked off

Following today's productive day of pre-meetings, this year's UArctic Assembly has kicked off and will continue with the business meetings tomorrow.

The 2025 UArctic Assembly is held from 6 to 9 June in Inari, Sápmi, Finland, hosted by the Sámi Education Institute

The UArctic Assembly is the annual meeting of UArctic members which also serves as a platform of cooperation, networking, and consultation between all UArctic members.

Pre-meetings

Today, Assembly participants gathered for four pre-meetings on various subjects. Member Engagement Coordinator Natalia Nikolaeva and Secretary General Outi Snellman opened with a meeting on new member applicants, which was followed by Vice-President Mobility Isabelle Guissard's Introduction to north2north. President Lars Kullerud and Executive Vice-President Jouko Niinimäki walked us through UArctic's Strategic Focus Areas. Finally, Vice-President Academic Diane Hirshberg and the Læra Institute for Circumpolar Studies' Lead Heather Nicol spoke about building Circumpolar Studies in UArctic.

In addition to the pre-meetings, participants got to enjoy a tour of the Sámi Education Institute as well as of Sámi Cultural Center Sajos and Sámi Museum and Nature Centre Siida. The day finished with a lovely evening cruise on Lake Inari.
