About this event
Arctic countries and communities face unique solid waste management challenges, such as remoteness, extreme climatic conditions, and inadequate waste services. While countries continue to pursue workable solutions, there are differences in their approaches and methods, which provide opportunities for learning. This webinar looks at how different Arctic countries are managing solid waste despite the challenges they are confronted with.
The panelists selected to discuss this topic have experience working on solid waste issues within the Arctic and Northern contexts. Based in Canada, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, the panel will share and deliberate on the structural, political, institutional, and economic realities of solid waste management. Additionally, strategies and innovative approaches that can make existing systems better, as well as opportunities that exist for countries to work together, will be explored. The panel will draw on their experiences working in academia, community-based research, policy, and national projects.
Participants will leave the webinar with knowledge and insight into practical solid waste management in the Arctic, as well as how communities are overcoming barriers and sustainably managing their waste.
