ARO announcement are asked to provide Battelle ARO with a detailed support request 4 to 6 weeks prior to the date the estimate is required.

As described in the section entitled “Proposals Involving Fieldwork or Ship Time” in the Arctic Research Opportunities solicitation, NSF will consider the full cost of supporting a project, including logistics, prior to making recommendations.

Please note, proposals requesting contractor support for fieldwork should expect to go to the field no sooner than 12 months after award, and generally no sooner than 18 months for proposals with ship time requests or especially complex logistics, to allow time to plan, budget, and complete environmental compliance documentation.

Researchers should submit field plans and support requirements to Battelle ARO Science Planning Administrator, Naomi Whitty, at arctic.planning@battelle.org.

As the primary Arctic program logistics contractor for the NSF, Battelle ARO annually provides transportation, communications, infrastructure, and field camp support to over 100 projects. In addition, Battelle ARO provides well over 60 estimates yearly to scientists submitting proposals.

For researchers submitting to meet the 16 January 2024 target date, requests need to be submitted to Battelle ARO by Monday, 18 December 2023. Early submissions are strongly encouraged.

For further information, please see the Proposal Estimating Support page on the Battelle ARO Gateway and visit the Arctic Research Support and Logistics.
