Alaska Pacific University (APU) is a small liberal arts and sciences university in Anchorage, AK. APU was founded in 1959 by Dr. Peter Gordon Gould (Unungax) with the goal of meeting the educational needs of Alaska and Alaska Native peoples. We have recently reaffirmed this founding mission by moving towards becoming recognized as an Alaska Native-serving and Tribal University.

The mission of APU s to provide a world-class, hands-on, culturally responsive educational experience in collaboration with our students, communities, and Tribal partners. We offer graduate and undergraduate certificates and degree programs in fields such as: business, Alaska rural management, counseling psychology, community health, nursing, health sciences, health occupations, liberal studies, Alaska Native governance, creative and professional writing, education, environmental public health, marine and environmental science, outdoor studies, and sustainability. Programs are offered on campus, online, and in a hybrid, low-residency format.

Recognizing that the issues that impact Alaska are global issues, APU partners with communities and organizations that address the interests of the North. A strategic affiliation with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, the largest and most comprehensive Tribal health organization in the United States, enhances opportunities for student and faculty research and community engagement in healthcare and public health. APU faculty are also recognized scholars in snow science, fisheries, food systems, marine science, and other areas relevant to education and community welfare in the Circumpolar North.
